If you are staying in Korea for short period, you could use hotel because it is the best way. But what if you want to stay in Korea for long period? If you are interested in staying in a Korea home and experiencing Korean lifestyle first-hand, HaSuks are one of the best ways. What is HaSuk? It is something you can call homestay in other countries. These boarding houses usually provide two or threee meals a day and some services such as laundry. Foreign exchange students often stay at a boarding house. If you want to stay in Hasuk you should be okay to live with different sex because both sexes live in the same house. You will use different room and different floor. If you are not okay with this system, you should look for something like females only Hasuk or Males only Hasuk. Hasuk could be indepedent house or apartment house. They will charge more if you get bigger room, males and females use same shower room and food will be served 2 times a day. Charges of Gas, Water and electrocity are included in rent charge. Payment of Rent Rent charges are different in every places. Rent prices around Universities such as Shin-Chon are really expensive. It should be around ￦450,000 - ￦500,000 per month. It is around ￦250,000 - ￦400,000per month in other places. Sometimes inner part, size and floor of the room make differences in rent charge. You should make payment of the rent to the owner in cash. The date of the payment should be the date you enter the house. For example, if you enter the house on January 10th, you have to make the payment on 10th of every month. How do I fine Hasuk-chip? The hardest part is finding Hasuk-Chip. Everyone should face this problem. You should take the right moment to take Hasuk-chip. You can take the room right away if there is a space but it usually depends on opening date of Universities. It is easy to find rooms on January, February, July and August. You don't have to worry that you could be rejected because you are a foreigner. The female owner of the house has the right to choose who can get the room so there's no problem if she gives room to you. The easiest way to find Hasuk-Chip is get to know the owner of the house through the person who knows that Hasuk-Chip very well. The way to find Hasuk-chip. If you don't have special way to find Hasuk, you should walk around and find Hasuk-chip by yourself. Some of the schools introduce Hasuk-Chip to students but we don't recommand this because they are usually expensive. Realtors usually don't introduce Hasuk-Chip to students. OnDol (Hot Floored room) The heating system in Korea is very special. You can experience this system because it is Korea's culture. It is heating system called "Ondol" and we use this system from old days. People use gas boiler these days so it is very comfortable. You can experience Ondol in Hasuk-Chip. It is really cool in summer and warm in winter. The heat spreads out from the floor so whole room gets really warm easily. This is really good heating system in winter time.
